Hi I’m Alex and I’m going to interview Mr Grover about the Second Chance School in Tanzania

Can you explain what the second chance school in Tanzania is like?

A little bit about the school is that it is set up by Mama and Papa Renjun. It’s a chance for students who have not completed their secondary education for some reason or another to have a second chance at completing that education. The school is very different to ICS and needs a lot of resources. It has classes that are simple that has about 70 students.

How do you help the school?

I am a 8th grade design tech and I run a design group who builds a website to help get donations and awareness about the school.

What do you with the school?

When I went to school I tried to set up and internet connection and electricity at a time when I could take out a donation of money and computers I also taught them computer lessons and get information for this website.

Why did you choose to help the school in Tanzania?

Well I was very lucky and met somebody who had been their the year before and said they needed a website and I said I would get some kids to make it. That who I got involved with the school.

What do you achieve by helping the second chance school in Tanzania?

I don’t think I achieve anything but I want to help the school in Tanzania. I don’t think I achieve anything but I hope that what I do and my grade 8 design team do will help them. When I was their the money we raises help things like windows and door and locks also a roof and kitchen.

How is the second chance school different to ICS or another international school?

In many ways it similar it has student, teaches and classrooms. There are 20 computers but only 5 were working when I went but nobody knew how to use them and when I went I was teaching them basic things. The school’s internet and electricity is dodgy and their aren’t enough resources to go around. There is a giant divide between the two schools.

When you visited the school in 2007 what problems did u have?

When I went in 2007 I had hoped to be teaching them some computer lessons but they failed my expectations by a long way because the first lesson I did was how to turn on a computer and open a program. They had no idea what they were doing. That was a problem. We also had problems that the electricity there is very unreliable and expensive. I sat down to do work one day and had to wait around for 10 hours because their was a power cut then went on for 45 minutes then was off for the next day.

Do you think ICS is having a positive impact on the school?

I think we have lots of other school and companies have contacted us to say what a great job we have done and they have become involved with the school as a result of looking at are website.

Do you want to go back to the school?

I really want to I was meant to go back in March but I had the pleasure of the birth of my baby daughter but I do hope to go back some time soon.
